UFC 136 Results: Joe Lauzon Derails the Melvin Guillard Hype Train

Jason SchielkeCorrespondent IOctober 8, 2011

At UFC 136 from the Toyota Center in Houston, it took just one left hook and one rear-naked choke attempt from Joe Lauzon to put a screeching halt to the Melvin Guillard hype train.

Many people believed that Guillard's time at the top was upon us. Joe Lauzon was, in many eyes, just a speed bump in Guillard's path to a title shot.

Lauzon proved that not only is he not a speed bump, but he is a threat to anyone in the lightweight division.

Lauzon, the jiu-jitsu specialist, was able withstand the early storm from Guillard without taking any damage. Then Lauzon was able to explode with a left hook that put Guillard down on his back.

Lauzon used this to pounce on Guillard and gain back control. From there, Lauzon easily transitioned to back control, sunk in a rear-naked choke with ease, and Guillard had no choice but to tap out.

Now one has to wonder how long it will be before we see Lauzon fighting for his chance at the lightweight title.

All aboard the Joe Lauzon hype train!
