Wizards 108, Nets 88

After winning seven of their last nine games, the New Jersey Nets laid an egg tonight. In embarrassing fashion, the Nets lost to the Gilbert Arenas-less Washington Wizards by 20 points at home. The final score was 108-88 in favor the Wiz.

The Wizards, now 3-12, picked up their first road win this season. Unbelievably, this was also their first win over an Eastern Conference opponent after 11 straight losses. The Nets three-game winning streak was snapped as well.

The Nets committed 11 turnovers to the Wizards seven, along with the discrepancy in assists: New Jersey had 14 to Washington's 33.

The true swan song for the Nets in this game was the field goal percentage (or lack there of). New Jersey shot just over 40 percent, while Washington was an impressive 51.8 percent from the field.

Once again, Nets point guard Devin Harris out-shined the rest of his teammates with 18 points, but with a mere two assists. On the other side, Caron Butler was in All-Star form with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists.

Luckily for the Nets, they are 9-8 and currently have the sixth best record in the Eastern Conference—keeping them alive in the early stages of their playoff hunt. The Wizards on the other hand, currently hold the worst record in the Eastern Conference.

Overall, they are the worst team in the league, second only to the Oklahoma City Thumped—I mean Thunder.

The road gets a little easier for the Nets as they play the Minnesota Timberwolves at home on Friday—assuming they do not suffer another embarrassing loss at the Izod Center. As for the Wizards, they face the surging and tough Portland Trail Blazers this Wednesday at home in the Verizon Center.
