WWE News: CM Punk Becomes #1 in Merchandise, Set to Receive Major Push
The burial of CM Punk has been greatly overstated.
Earlier this week I commented on the PWInsider report which revealed that due to CM Punk overtaking John Cena and becoming #1 in merchandise sales, he'd be getting a massive push:
As it stands, we can expect to see Punk featured prominently in the WWE title picture, working with Alberto Del Rio on multiple pay-per-views. The word is that WWE is going to look to use Punk's multiple losses to Del Rio to fuel his future storyline.
Into 2012, Punk is set to be a key player in WWE, as well as having more merchandise, and possibly some work with WWE Studios or even a book.
I can already hear the Internet breathing a universal sigh of relief, thankful that Punk won't be king of the midcard, and will be staying relevant in the "big picture."
That was Tuesday, and I'm still breathing that sigh of relief. I don't write about Professional Wrestling because it's a job, or because I'm trying to build an online presence. I write because I'm a fan, and thanks to CM Punk, I'm a very passionate fan once again.
Nothing is guaranteed though, as we all know how volatile WWE can be with Vince McMahon's...inconsistency, for lack of a kinder word.
When the time comes for Punk to step back into the forefront, he's going to need to knock it out of the park like he did with the memorable "shoot" promo on Raw. I'm highly optimistic though, and expect some great things after Survivor Series.
