NFL teams get a week off every season. Fantasy owners never do.
Six teams hit the bye week circuit in Week 5 as fantasy owners prepare rosters without some of their studs. The Ravens, Browns, Cowboys, Dolphins, Rams and Redskins all are off this weekend.
If your team consists of a majority of players from these team, good luck. Consider some of these bye-week replacements in extreme circumstances.
Injuries of Note
Andre Johnson had a procedure done on his hamstring to help speed the recovery and only is expected to miss two-to-three weeks … Vincent Jackson did not practice on Thursday and is starting to look a little iffy for Sunday’s matchup with Denver … Most are expecting Ben Roethlisberger to play this week despite spraining his foot last Sunday against Houston … Rashard Mendenhall, meanwhile, is no lock to play. The Steelers are prepping Isaac Redman to be the starter … The Patriots might get Aaron Hernandez back this weekend, so keep an eye on his practice status Friday … Rams’ slot receiver Danny Amendola is done for the year after re-injuring his elbow in practice last week … Chad Henne also is done for the season after undergoing shoulder surgery … Marques Colston has been declared fully healthy by head coach Sean Payton and should see starter’s snaps this week against Carolina.
Shonn Greene @ Patriots
Jets going back to the “ground and pound” should be a good thing for Greene.
Donovan McNabb v. Cardinals
Bye week filler, if you need him, has a nice matchup at home.
Antonio Brown v. Titans
As long as Big Ben plays, Brown is due for a big day.
Greg Olsen v. Saints
The Panthers will use Olsen to pick on Roman Harper just like every other team does.
LeGarrette Blount @ 49ers
San Fran has a really nice run D, going to be tough sledding for Blount.
Matt Schaub v. Raiders
No Andre Johnson really limits his ceiling, especially with no clear-cut No. 2 wide receiver.
Cedric Benson @ Jaguars
Jags are another under-the-radar D against the run.
Sean Brown CJ2K or Ahmad Bradshaw? Also, 1 of the following 3 WR: Antonio Brown, David Nelson, Michael Crabtree?
Tough call at RB, but I might give the edge to Bradshaw. Brandon Jacobs might not play this week. I think CJ2K has a big day coming, though. As long as Big Ben plays, I like Brown. Otherise, go with Nelson who should see a lot of targets out of the slot against Philly.
Sean Conner Plaxico or Johnny knox
Plaxico. I know the Jets said they are going back to the “ground and pound”, but the Patriots have been terrible against the pass. Could just be a smoke-screen from Rex Ryan.
Vincent Rundo Matt schaub or cam newton
Newton. Schaub without Andre Johnson has a really low ceiling. Cam is a threat to score via the air or ground and will need to fill up the stat sheet to keep up with Drew Brees and Co.
