The Seattle Mariners went through more first baseman last season than thought possible. The Millwaukee Brewers had one solid power first baseman, Prince Fielder.
The Mariners now need a power-hitting first baseman, and Prince Fielder would be a great fit. With Jack Zduirenzick previously being in the Brewers organization he knows Fielder well, very well. Now it seems that the power-hitting first baseman he drafted a few years back may come with him to Seattle.
Who would the Seattle Mariners give for Fielder? There's a lot of options. J.J. Putz would be a great fit with maybe a guy like Tug Hullet or Luis Valbuena to seal the deal.
That would give both teams what they want and more. The Mariners would have a player that has power, leadership, youth, average, and connections. The Brewers would receive an all-star closer and a second base prospect. Seems like a good trade to me.
The Brewers no doubt are wanting to shop Prince Fielder, the Mariners no doubt are wanting to shop J.J. Putz if the right deal comes, and the right deal is right there.
The Brewers and Seattle are going to strengthen ties even more. The Brewers used to be the Seattle Pilots in fact and if the Brew Crew wants to do some trading this off season Fielder is the No. 1 choice to go.
