It has been learned today that the former Chicago Blackhawks legend Hurbut "Pit" Martin has been pronounced dead after his snowmobile fell through a patch of ice in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec.

The Chicago Blackhawks general manager Dale Tallon has issued a statement about the death of Pit Martin:

“This is a very sad day for the Blackhawks family. Pit was a wonderful human being and a mentor to me. Growing up in the same town, I idolized him and then was very lucky to have a chance to play with him in the National Hockey League. He was such a great man that did so much for his family and the community. He is going to be missed by everyone in our organization. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

Pit Martin is one of the highest scoring Blackhawks of all-time with 627 points, seventh all-time in 'Hawks history. While on the 'Hawks Martin was part of the most famous lines in Blackhawks history the "MPH" line that included Martin, Jim Pappin and Denis Hull. Martin also played for the Red Wings, Canucks, and Bruins over the his 17 seasons in the NHL.

I would like to send my deepest sympathies to the to the Martin family.  This is a difficult time for them and I hope them all the best moving forward.

Pit, you will always be one of the greatest Blackhawks of all time.  You will be sorely missed.
