I just wanted to say how much I have appreciated the fantasy support that D.J. Augustin has provided my team.
The two most important positions on a fantasy basketball team are the center and point guard. These are two positions that specialize in specific categories: rebounds and blocks for centers, and assists for point guards.
I always try to have about four of each on every team. Coming out of the draft this season I only had one real point guard, and that was Andre Miller.
Thanks to an early season waiver pickup in Augustin, I have successfully added another pure point guard to my team that will lead me to the promised land.
Augustin not only led my team in assists this past week, but also in three-pointers. He was only four points from the top in the points category on a team that has Kobe, Andre Iguodala, and Zydrunas Ilgauskas (who led my team in points).
I have been playing fantasy basketball for a while, and I have been successful during that period, winning my leagues three years in a row at one point. During that stretch, I have had two players since their rookie years that have led me to the promised land. They were Josh Smith and Chris Bosh.
I have had Smith and Bosh on my teams every year that I have won the 'chip in my fantasy leagues, and I did so before they were big-time players. (I haven't won for a couple years now.) I got both of those guys off the waiver wire initially and took them in the later rounds after their rookie seasons as they progressed into great fantasy players.
But why I bring this up is because I really think that Augustin can and will be that reliable player that I can pick up off the waiver wire now. It will be possible to pick him up cheaply in the draft over the next couple of years.
So pay attention and make sure you have this guy on your roster for the next couple of years. You heard it here first.
Also, make sure you read my All-Rookie teams for November, where I compare Derrick Rose and Augustin to Chris Paul and Deron Williams.
