Earlier this season, the Packers cut their punter, Jon Ryan, for seemingly no reason. Ted Thompson said it was because of the availability of Derrick Frost, who was touted as one of the best directional punters in the game. Turns out, Thompson was wrong.
Wrong about Frost. But right about Rodgers. Just wanted to clear that up.
Thompson finally realized his Derrick Frost mistake on Monday, cutting ties with Derrick Frost, even though the Packers don't really have a replacement lined up. That just shows how badly the Packers wanted to cut ties with him.
The consensus here is that the Packers made a mistake letting Ryan go for Frost. Did it cost the Packers any games? Probably not, but we'll never know. Special Teams coach Mike Stock doesn't really want to think about it: "I don't want to look back. It's just one of those things where we made the decision and we're living it." More of Stock's interview with Greg A. Bedard can be found here.
The Packers will bring in some more guys on Tuesday, but this wasn't the only move they made today. Nick Barnett and Kenny Pettway have been officially placed on the IR. Cornerback Joe Porter and defensive end Albert Malone have been called up from the practice squad to replace them.
