It wasn't clear what had happened, but one look at the faces of every player on the field made it clear that something horrific had just occurred.

Some seemed to be nearly in tears, others dropped down and prayed. Nobody could look at it. Colts defensive tackle Eric Foster had dislocated his ankle in a gruesome injury.

It's tough seeing anyone get hurt like that. Nobody wants to see a player go down in a season-ending injury, but the fact that it happened to Foster makes the injury even worse.

Foster isn't a perennial Pro Bowler and until now, he wasn't a household name. He's a guy who brought his lunch pail and hard hat to work every day and worked his way up from being an undrafted free agent to being a starter.

This isn't a guy whose had an easy road. He's the ultimate Cinderella story. If anyone can bounce back from this injury and work his way back into a starting role, it's Foster. Even so, this injury couldn't have happened to a more undeserving player.

This injury is yet another obstacle he's got to climb. Just when he had made it, he's slapped with more adversity. Like an undrafted kid out of Rutgers, Foster is going to have to prove his worth and show the team he's NFL starter material.

There is no doubt that Foster will be up to the challenge and if he succeeds, it's only going to add to his unlikely journey through the NFL.

Everyone is hoping the ankle injury doesn't follow him past this season. It would be a shame to see a freak accident cut such a deserving person's career cut short.
