Texas Gets Robbed By BCS Polls

Texas just got screwed by the BCS and the human polls that put Oklahoma ahead of them.  Texas beat Oklahoma.  I'll say it again, Texas beat Oklahoma!  Not only that, they beat both teams playing for the Big 12 title.

Now, I know that some of you will say with that logic Texas Tech should still be No. 2 because they beat Texas.  But, that isn't the logic that I am using.  Let's look at the body of work between Texas, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma.

Let's start with the Red River Shootout.  Texas won in a great football game.  Since then, Texas lost to Texas Tech also in a great football game.  After that, Tech turned around and got clobbered by Oklahoma.  Keep in mind that under Stoops, the Sooners have only lost twice in Norman.  Norman is always a tough place to play and Tech just wasn't ready.  Had the game been in Lubbock, it would have been a different story.

Since they played each other, Oklahoma and Texas have been playing the exact same caliber of football.  It's a dead heat to say who is better.  Texas Tech hasn't been playing good football.  They got destroyed by Oklahoma and barely beat Baylor.  Therefore, it is between Oklahoma and Texas to see who is better and since they played each other, they are dead even.

Therefore, you have to take Texas because they beat Oklahoma on a "neutral field" in the Cotton Bowl.  If it had been Oklahoma that had beaten Texas, then I would be saying that Oklahoma should go.  It will also be a travesty if Texas is left out of the National Title game in favor of Oklahoma, because it's a team that they beat!

Texas has done nothing wrong and yet they are being left out for a team that they BEAT!  It's a travesty.

If you are going to use the head to head argument, you have to include Texas Tech as part of the equation. They are 11-1 just like Texas, and they beat Texas head to head. You can't just spin the facts and conveniently use head to head vs. OU while dismissing it with Tech.

The only team getting the royal shaft in this equation is Texas Tech who will likely finish 12-1 and ranked in the Top 5 while getting the Cotton Bowl as it's reward. At least Texas will get a BCS bowl even though Tech proved to be the better team on Nov. 1.

I actually agree here. Typical Texas here is now all pissy because they're getting left out. Mack Brown says his boys did everything they were supposed to do and they should be recognized... Uh, except beat Tech there Mack. A win is a win and a loss is a loss. You cannot pick and choose which ones mean more at what point in time to serve your point of view. If that's the case, you beat up on your weak rival at home, I was there. Oklahoma beat their rival at their joint! That's a better win than your A&M win... It just doesn't make sense. What would Texas' argument be if Tech was picked? The fact is no matter which way it goes, one of the teams was going to be left out of the mix unfairly; it's a three way tie and one spot to fill.

That's the same argument I have seen every single time from a OU supporter. It makes sense, sure, but you have to put it in context in order to understand it. Texas lost in Lubbock, at night, after a 3-game stretch of top-11 opponents. There were no breaks; the Longhorns played OU, Missouri, OSU, and TTU back-to-back-to-back-to-back.

I'm not taking anything away from the victory against TTU. OU destroyed them. However, it was in Norman, where Stoops is 60-2 in his tenure, and it came after a bye week.

I'd say that after the loss in Lubbock, Texas went on to overcome it. They rocked Baylor, destroyed Kansas in Lawrence, and then held their in-state rivals to 9 points in the most lopsided defeat in the series since 1898.

What's really to blame here is the tiebreaker rules in the Big XII. If they actually made sense, then there would be no argument.

Bill you're wrong. Texas went on to overcome that loss. Texas Tech eliminated themselves by playing terrible at the end of the year. Oklahoma and Texas right now are playing the some caliber of football. So who's better. I'll tell you TEXAS. I'm a Nebraska fan not a Texas fan. But I understand a screw up when I see it. Not only are two teams that Texas beat playing for the Big 12 title but Oklahoma, a team Texas beat, will be playing for the national title.

You're right on the money, Jack. Texas not only beat Oklahoma convincingly on a neutral field, but their "body of work" is just as good as Oklahoma's as well. But the nation watches one Big 12 game all year: Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma, and they all of a sudden jump on the OU bandwagon. The BCS system is pathetic and it always has been.

As far as the Longhorns' last second loss at Texas Tech, let's compare the losses of Texas & Oklahoma. Texas' loss was just that: at the last second, not to mention on the road. Oklahoma's loss was by 10 points on a neutral field, NOT the road. But the most important thing is it was against the TEXAS LONGHORNS -- the REAL number 1 team in the nation...

Forget the President, impeach the Bowl Championship Series!
