Arsenal FC: Who Should Replace Bacary Sagna in the Starting XI

0 of 5

Arsenal was given a big blow when Bacary Sagna suffered a fractured fibula during the weekend match against Tottenham. Sagna is expected to be out for three months.

Sagna is arguably the best right back in the premier league and one of the best in the world. Sagna has been Arsenal's most consistent defender for the last four to five years.

It is going to be difficult for Arsenal to replace Sagna's quality in the starting XI, but a decision needs to be made if Arsenal are to cope with the loss of the French defender.

There are a few players that can fill the void for Arsenal in Sagna's absence.

Carl Jenkinson

Carl Jenkinson might be the most likely pick for Arsene Wenger to replace Sagna. However, Carl Jenkinson is not the best choice to replace Sagna in the starting XI because he is still very inexperienced at this level.

Carl has looked good at times at the position but, at other times, he seems to have trouble containing players on the right flank of the defense.

Johan Djourou

I had to put Djourou on this list because their is a possibility that Wenger could select Johan into the Arsenal starting XI.

If he were to replace Sagna, it would have many Arsenal supporters worried. Johan has looked exceptionally poor this season and has made many mistakes for Arsenal this season, which has cost them vital points.

Johan should NOT replace Bacary Sagna at right back.

Francis Coquelin

Many Arsenal supporters would be happy to see this youngster to be the short-term replacement for Sagna in the starting XI. So far this season, Coquelin has played brilliantly and has showed great mentality when selected to play for the first team.

Even if his preferred position is in the center of the midfield, Coquelin has also played at right back before, which makes him a viable candidate as Bacary Sagna's replacement in the starting XI.

Kieran Gibbs or Andre Santos

Both Santos and Gibbs are competing for the starting left back position, but with Sagna's injury, one of them could fill in the right back position. Both players are very attack-minded, can play great defense when called upon and are very versatile.

However, it may take a while to adjust to the position if either were selected to play at right back.

Laurent Koscielny

5 of 5

Last, but not least, Laurent Koscielny is the final candidate for the right back position in the Arsenal starting XI. Koscielny has vastly improved during his time at Arsenal and is becoming one of the best center backs in the Premier League.

Like Thomas Vermaelen, Koscielny is versatile and can play about every position in the defense, making him a perfect fit at right back when Vermaelen returns from his injury later this month.

Arsene Wenger will then be able to field a strong defense with Koscielny at right back, Vermaelen and Per Mertesacker at center back and Kieran Gibbs at left back.

If Vermaelen is fit to play, Laurent Koscielny is the ideal and best replacement for Bacary Sagna at right back.
