Midweek fixtures are usually a big deal due to the many changes that can happen after playing three games in a eight-day span.

However, this time, it wasn’t the case. Only Levante swept its rivals, so we had almost no drastic position changes in the power rankings of La Liga.

Remember, the power rankings are not a stat; rather, they are a combination of recent performances, position in the table, perceived strengths and the opinion of yours truly.

So, yeah, you might not agree with the order in the list, but we can discuss that in the comments section below.

You can find La Liga power rankings here every Tuesday.

20. Sporting

Last week’s position: 20th

Results this week: Atletico 4-0 Sporting ::: Sporting 0-0 Racing

Sporting finally got a point, but they remain at the bottom of the standings.

19. Racing

Last week’s position: 18th

Result this week: Racing 0-0 Real Madrid ::: Sporting 0-0 Real Madrid

Racing has gotten all its points in 0-0 draws.

18. Athletic

Last week’s position: 16th

Result this week: Malaga 1-0 Athletic ::: Athletic 1-1 Villarreal

Los Leones play well, but their finishing has been terrible.

17. Granada

Last week’s position: 15th

Result this week: Real Sociedad 1-0 Granada :::  Granada 1-1 Osasuna

Granada is still clear from the relegation zone, but that won’t last much.

16. Getafe

Last week’s position: 19th

Results this week: Espanyol 1-0 Getafe ::: Getafe 1-0 Betis

Los Azulones finally reacted, and they did it by taking down current leader Betis.

15. Zaragoza

Last week’s position: 14th

Result this week: Betis 4-3 Zaragoza ::: Zaragoza 0-0 Malaga

Considering the quality of their opposition, it wasn’t such a bad week for Los Maños.

14. Rayo

Last week’s position: 10th

Result this week: Rayo Vallecano 1-2 Levante ::: Real Madrid 6-2 Rayo Vallecano

After going undefeated in the first three rounds, Rayo was the only team that lost twice last week

13. Villarreal

Last week’s position: 17th

Result this week: Villarreal 2-0 Mallorca ::: Athletic 1-1 Villarreal

El Submarino Amarillo had a good week, but it’s still far from the top spots.

12. Osasuna

Last week’s position: 13th

Result this week: Osasuna 0-0 Sevilla ::: Granada 1-1 Osasuna

So-so week for Los Rojillos.

11. Mallorca

Last week’s position: 12th

Result this week: Villarreal 2-0 Mallorca ::: Mallorca 2-1 Real Sociedad

Coach Michael Laudrup resigned this Tuesday due to “professional differences” with the board.

10. Espanyol

Last week’s position: 11th

Result this week: Espanyol 1-0 Getafe ::: Levante 3-1 Espanyol

Los Periquitos are L-W-L-W-L in their first five games; this would mean a win is coming next weekend…but they will host Real Madrid.

9. Real Sociedad

Last week’s position: Ninth

Result this week: Real Sociedad 1-0 Granada ::: Mallorca 2-1 Real Sociedad

A very strong team at home, but has yet to get a point away from Anoeta.

8. Atlético

Last week’s position: Eighth

Result this week: Atletico 4-0 Sporting ::: Barcelona 5-0 Atletico

The visit to Camp Nou was a big reality check for Los Colchoneros.

7. Valencia

Last week’s position: Second

Result this week: Valencia 2-2 Barcelona ::: Sevilla 1-0 Valencia

Los Chés had a very tough week, and they barely got a point.

6. Betis

Last week’s position: Fifth

Result this week: Zaragoza 4-3 Betis ::: Getafe 1-0 Betis

Yes, Betis is still the leader in the standings, but it has a lot to do with a very weak schedule to start the season.

5. Malaga

Last week’s position: Sixth

Result this week: Malaga 1-0 Athletic ::: Zaragoza 0-0 Malaga

They remain in the Europa League zone and get closer to the top spots.

4. Levante

Last week’s position: Seventh

Result this week: Rayo Vallecano 1-2 Levante ::: Levante 3-1 Espanyol

Levante is the only team that won its two games of the week…and let’s not forget they were coming from beating Real Madrid.

3. Real Madrid

Last week’s position: Third

Result this week: Racing 0-0 Real Madrid ::: Real Madrid 6-2 Rayo Vallecano

Crisis? What crisis?

2. Sevilla

Last week’s position: Fourth

Result this week: Osasuna 0-0 Sevilla ::: Sevilla 1-0 Valencia

Sevilla has had a really tough schedule (they already faced Malaga, Villarreal and Valencia), and it remains undefeated.

1. Barcelona

Last week’s position: First

Result this week: Valencia 2-2 Barcelona ::: Barcelona 5-0 Atletico

Another impressive display at Camp Nou keep Los Culés at the top of the rankings.
