New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles: Live Score, Highlights and Analysis
Rob Carr/Getty Images
One of the greatest rivalries in the NFL continues today when the New York Giants look for redemption against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Mike Vick and Eli Manning square off in a battle of two quarterbacks that always seem to have just as many doubters as supporters. Vick, coming off of a concussion, will be interesting to watch as he looks to elude the Giants attack defense.
On defense, the Eagles will look to contain Hakeem Nicks, who is quickly becoming one of the top wideouts in the NFL.
Stay here as I update with all of the scoring action, stats, highlights and analysis!
Updated Score: Eagles 16 Giants 29
Giants in victory formation following an interception. This one's over.
Two minute warning in the fourth quarter and this game could not look any different than the end of the first half.
Jason Pierre-Paul gets to Mike Kafka but is injured on the play. 2nd and 16 for the Eagles.
Touchdown GIANTS! A brilliant screen play to Ahmad Bradshaw who continues his great day rushing and receiving. 29-16 Giants lead and Vick looks about as bored and dejected as a starting QB ever could.
That could be the ball game...the Giants were lined up for a field goal and an Eagles penalty made it first down. The Giants are content to run a bunch of time off the clock and make the Eagles burn their timeouts.
If the Giants are successful, its hard to think the Eagles could come back with Kafka.
Vick sitting on the bench has to be depressing for Eagles fans. Your entire offense revolves around one guy and he's on the sideline. Giants should be able to ice this game.
An interception by Mike Kafka with eight minutes left could be the defining moment in this game. Giants will get the ball back and have had no problems rushing. Now, they just need to figure out how to take some time off the clock as well.
Eli Manning has had some hiccups, but overall he's won the QB battle so far today. Anytime you can pass for over 200 yards and 3 TDs is a great afternoon.
Touchdown Victor Cruz! Giants also convert the two point conversion. Giants lead 22-16.
Win or lose, Ahmad Bradshaw has been impressive today. The Giants just haven't had the ball long enough to really get him rolling. He's currently averaging about 10 yards per carry and should break 100 if the score remains close.
Eagles (wisely) go for it on fourth down in the middle of the field. The Giants get the stop and great field position. Reid will probably be questioned (especially if they end up losing the game), but hard to think you can't get one with that offense. If anything, the play call (straight run) may be the biggest offense.
Giants defense in full-on "bend but don't break" mode here in the fourth quarter, Eagles lead by two, but the momentum seems to be equal.
Through three quarters, the Eagles are absolutely dominating the time of possession. According to ESPN,
| Giants 12:42 | Eagles 32:18 |
Awesome defense by the New York Giants who stop the Eagles on three straight runs. If you're Reid, how do you not roll out the most electrifying QB in the game?
Field Goal: Eagles 16 Giants 14
Vick and company knocking on the door again. Let's see what the Giants injury replacements can do here.
Interesting play by the Eagles who go with what looked like either a rollout pass or (maybe) a designed QB run. Vick got up field before a fumble into the hands of Jason Peters. Peters rumbled for some more yards. With the amount of money the Eagles are paying Peters, it's about time he rushed a little!
Commercial update: Anyone else completely underwhelmed by the idea of Dominos offering "Artisan" pizzas? If that weren't enough, they're 7.99. There are plenty of great places to go for good pizza, like, anywhere other than Dominos.
Spoke too soon!` The Giants move away from the rush and get into some long situations again! The Eagles pass rush delivers and the Giants have to punt on 4th and 19. Fair caught at the 10.
Both teams looking confident in the rushing attacks early in the second half. Vick vs. Manning could quickly be turning into McCoy vs. Bradshaw.
Corey Webster got away with a shot to the head of DeSean Jackson there.
Speaking of mental errors! The Eagles receive to start the half, but a penalty pushes the ball back inside the 15. Then, on the other hand, LeSean McCoy immediately rushes for a first down.
Coming back from half, the Eagles need to continue to rush the ball. Reid is known for his aerial attack, but rushing yards should come easy against the Giants and the less danger Vick is in, the better.
For the Giants, the mental miscues need to stop. They shot themselves in the foot a few times in the second quarter and couldn't capitalize on the momemtum they built for themselves. Negative plays are going to kill any team against the Eagles who invested heavily in both man-cover corners and pass rushers in the offseason.
It's been a tale of two quarters for the Eagles and Giants. Eli Manning came out throwing and led the Giants to a 14-0 lead with long touchdowns by Brandon Jacobs and Victor Cruz. The Eagles defense was much better in the second quarter.
When the Eagles had the ball, it was hard to get moving in the first quarter, a problem compounded by a first-drive interception courtesy of Aaron Ross.
Essentially a clean slate after halftime, the Eagles will get the ball to start the half.
Field Goal: Giants 14 Eagles 13
Miscue after miscue for the Eagles. They need to get it together if they want to have any momentum going in to the lockerroom.
