UFC 135: What Mark Hunt Must Do to Defeat Ben Rothwell

Although Mark Hunt is finding himself coming off of an impressive knockout win, every fight from here on out could be his last inside the Octagon.
The PRIDE veteran was once in the midst of a career worse five-fight losing streak heading into the UFC, though the defeats came to notables Josh Barnett, Fedor Emelianenko, Alistair Overeem, Melvin Manhoef and Gegard Mousasi.
Upon his entrance into the Zuffa fold, Hunt succumbed to a first-round submission loss at the hands of Sean McCorkle. The bout took all of 63 seconds to be over with.
However, the savvy striker had a second chance at success when he met with collegiate wrestler Chris Tuchscherer, staving off several takedown attempts before finding an uppercut to close the show in less than two minutes of the second-round.
Not only did the win earn Hunt "Knockout of the Night" honors before a supportive Australian crowd this past February, but the 2001 K-1 World Grand Prix Champion kept his career alive in the UFC.
Now he meets Ben Rothwell later on tonight for UFC 135, which takes place in Denver, Colorado. The two heavyweights meet on the main card for the pay-per-view event.
For Rothwell, it's a chance at redemption and a chance to reinsert himself into the thick of the division with an impressive showing against his less than experienced foe.
After suffering a torn ACL and deviated septum in his last bout against the tough Gilbert Yvel at UFC 115, Rothwell has since been sidelined due to said injuries, making tonight his first appearance in more than a year.
Hunt is facing a determined man in Rothwell, who holds 25 more mixed martial arts bouts under his hat. The key to victory for the New Zealander is to kick the legs of Rothwell hard and often.
There's no doubt that "Big Ben" will look to close the distance and power the smaller man to the ground, but those leg kicks will take the spring out of his step. For a man who is well undersized in a field of juggernauts, the 5-foot-10 Hunt packs a wallop.
As long as Hunt can stave off takedowns with leg kicks, we could see an upset, as Rothwell is the decided favorite heading into this intriguing heavyweight affair.
