Super Bowl XLII was the most-watched Super Bowl ever, with 97.5 million viewers witness to the New York Giants’ defeat of the New England Patriots, 17-14.

SBLXII ousted SBXXX of 1996, when Dallas beat Pittsburgh 27-17 before 94.08 million viewers.  The top-rated show in TV history remains the M*A*S*H finale, watched by 106 million viewers in 1983.

Commentary: As great as M*A*S*H was, it is still amazing that no Super Bowl has even come close to the number of viewers who said farewell, goodbye, and amen to Hawkeye and company.  Then again, with such variety in cable channels these days, TV viewership is spread out a lot more than it was in the 1980s.

Fantasy Football Impact: None.
