College Football Rankings: AJ McCaroon Faces Toughest Test of Young Career
When Florida and Alabama hook it up tonight, much has been made about the pressure that Gators quarterback John Brantley will face in order for Florida to pull off the upset.
Flip the coin though and Alabama's young signal caller A.J. McCaroon will be under the same pressure.
McCaroon has been off to an impressive start since winning the Crimson Tide starting job prior to the season.
Yet the speed and aggressiveness of the Gators defense will be unlike anything he has seen to date.
The game plan will be the same for both teams.
They both will look to run the football and stuff run defensively.
Things could come down to which quarterback handles the pressure more effectively. Whichever quarterback takes care of the football better and can make the occasional big play down the field will likely come out the victor.
To date, neither quarterback has been asked to put the ball up a lot. Brantley averages only slightly over 20 attempts per game, while McCaroon attempts slightly over 24 passes per game.
When they do throw, each respective coach usually tries to keep their quarterback out of spots where they would be prone to mistakes.
That may not be avoidable tonight as McCaroon not only will face the best defense he has seen to date, but also the toughest crowd to date as the sophomore travels to The Swamp for the first time.
So far, McCaroon has passed every test put in front of him. Yet he can't afford to relax because the challenges just keep getting tougher.
