College Football Rankings: Florida Gators Are the Beast of the SEC East?
The next two weeks will be very telling as to how good the Florida Gators really are.
Week 5 is home versus No. 2 Alabama, while Week 6 is at No. 3 LSU.
However, through the first four weeks the Gators are 4-0 and having only been getting better.
Beating Tennessee at home by ten points was a big confidence booster, and it easily carried over to Saturday as the Gators completely dominated the Kentucky Wildcats.
And for as great as they’ve been playing, now look at the South Carolina Gamecocks.
A team ranked higher, but has struggled to play consistently in all four weeks.
Right now, the Florida Gators are the best team the SEC East has to offer, because until South Carolina gets their act together there’s no reason why Gainesville can’t regain sole possession of their division.
Much of it also can be attributed to QB play.
Heading into the 2011 season Gator QB John Brantley had some critics to prove, and has done very well thus far, whereas Stephen Garcia of South Carolina threw four picks against Vanderbilt.
One can only imagine how different each of these teams would be if we swapped the two starting QBs.
All that said, the SEC East favorite is Florida, while the Gamecocks have a lot of proving to do as they’ve been arguably the most inconsistent 4-0 school ever ranked in the Top 15.
