FA Premier League: Tottenham Hotspur's Transfer Dealings: Honest and Effective

While the premier league’s largest heavyweights continue to tangle themselves in the often deceitful web that was the transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur steered clear of any major drama.

Luka Modric remained a peripheral target for Chelsea, though the latter's chase of Juan Mata signaled that the Croatian may well stay on and quite happily it seems. Of course the same cannot be said across North London, where Arsenal found themselves on the receiving end of a midfield exodus.

Harry Redknapp, once impolitely adjudged as "wheeler dealer" in the transfer market, appears now to have the savvy of a real estate seller and has kept the press at bay while showing no signs of the strange coyness that appears to have afflicted Arsene Wenger. Of course Redknapp has been well assisted by his forthcoming chairman Daniel Levy, who has been prepared to step in and answer questions when needed.

Modric decided to stay and was well rewarded as the Spurs signed Emanuel Adebayor and Scott Parker, two players that in years gone by fell foul of their club’s revolving door policy. Castaways they might once have been but so was Rafael Van der Vaart.

What is more, Redknapp appears to have made signings that will add quality and not just quantity, in the right areas. Tottenham has been crying out for a "proper" lone front man, a position that Peter Crouch, Roman Pavleychenko and even Jermaine Defoe have failed to make their own. Assured cover in Parker and Sandro would also let Van de Vaart, Aaron Lennon, Modric and Gareth Bale run riot with less hesitation.

Manchester City may well make the most noise, but a quiet confidence must be taking hold around White Hart Lane.
