He's lightning fast. I’ve seen his 40-time clocked as low as 4.27.
He’s clearly the best WR in the draft. He can make an impact immediately as a returner, and on the Raiders he probably steps in as the #1 option for JaMarcus Russell (who should see the bulk of the playing time at QB in 2008).
He’s a good pick…he’s just not the 3rd or 4th best player in the draft. I'm not even sure he's in the top-10.
Who They Should Pick: Chris Long, DE, Virginia
Chris Long is a guy that some people have coming off the board as the first overall pick. He would be a fantastic pick for the Raiders for a plethora of reasons, not the least of which being they need some D-line help with Sapp leaving.
Howie Long, Chris Long’s dad, played for the Raiders. So Chris is already a part of Raider Nation.
I just don’t see Al Davis making the smart pick here. He’s the type that falls in love with skill position players. So don’t expect Chris Long to go to his Dad’s former team.
Even if it would have been the right move.
Who They Might Pick: Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
If they don’t go WR with this pick, expect them to grab Darren McFadden.
This might not be a bad decision, considering the state of their running game for most of the 2007 season. But Justin Fargas looked good towards the end of the season, and they still have Michael Bush waiting in the wings.
I’m not sure even Al Davis wants to take a running back this high given what’s already on his roster. Plus, if McFadden gets picked here, we don’t get to see anymore uncomfortable ESPN draft-day camera shots.
We know, ESPN knows, and the Raiders know this is the best part of the draft day coverage. I fully expect ESPN to tell Al Davis that McFadden isn’t available anymore (and Davis will believe them, because he’s old and senile) so he doesn’t ruin it for everyone.
