NFL Exclusive Interview: Haloti Ngata Signs New Contract

BR StudiosFeatured ColumnistSeptember 21, 2011

Baltimore Ravens’ defensive tackle, Haloti Ngata, solidified a huge contract worth $61 million over the next five years with a $25 million signing bonus and another $10 in the form of an option bonus, which comes out to $40 million guaranteed.   This makes him the highest-paid non-QB over two years, and the highest paid interior lineman.  Last season, Ngata had a career high 63 tackles and 5.5 sacks.  He also anchored the NFL’s fourth best rush defense in 2010.  For a guy who has only missed four starts over the last five seasons and has made two consecutive Pro Bowls, his hard work is paying off.

During the offseason, Ngata signed a franchise tender, tying up $12 million of the Ravens 2011 cap space.  With their star DL covered, the team has more flexibility to re-sign other veterans on the roster as well as free agents.
