Maple Leafs vs. Flyers Live Blog: Live Reaction from the Battle of the Brothers
Only 24 hours after the Toronto Maple Leafs opened up the preseason with a win over the Ottawa Senators, they are back at it tonight at home against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers are making their preseason debut.
Both teams enter tonight's game with plenty of intrigue. The Flyers have one of the most remade rosters in the NHL, and the Leafs are on the cusp of contending for a playoff spot. If the Flyers made the wrong decision by getting rid of nine players during the offseason, they could very well be fighting with the Leafs for the last playoff spot.
Tonight's game has been getting a lot of press with two sets of brothers facing each other. The Leafs' Phil Kessel and Luke Schenn will be countered by their younger brothers, Blake and Brayden, respectively. You can bet a lot of emphasis will be placed on the two pairs of brothers by color commentators for tonight's game.
What will happen tonight? Who knows, but it should be a good game.
Well, that's it. The Flyers win it 4-0. The Maple Leafs could have done much better tonight and this one game that they would rather forget.
The Leafs will get their chance to get back at the Flyers tomorrow night in Philadelphia. With the Leafs planning to make cuts to the roster tomorrow, expect a much different roster. Hopefully the Leafs can get some offense in because they will more than likely be going to be facing Ilya Bryzgalov.
Boy, this third period is uneventful. I can't wait until the regular season.
The Leafs fail to score on a full two minutes of 5-on-3. Safe to say that the Leafs power play still needs some work.
A Leafs TV segment on Cody Franson. The Leafs could use one of those famed snapshots right now.
This is getting annoying. Joe Colborne gives the puck away to Sean Couturier, who promptly puts it in the back of the net. 4-0 Philadelphia.
Reimer stays in, third period is underway, The Leafs need to do much better on the power play and generate more offense because the Flyers dominated the second period.
Leafs TV had a profile on Leafs first founder Stuart Percy. If he develops well and becomes half of who he models his game after, Nik Lidstrom, the Leafs have another good defenseman on the way.
Brayden Schenn fires the first shot in the Schenn war as he gets an assist while Luke is in the box. Also, before I forget, it is now 3-0 Philadelphia as Mike Testwuide scores. Second period comes to an end. Hate to say it, but take James Reimer out and let Mark Owuya get in a period.
2-0 Philadelphia. Matt Carle took the shot, looks to have been deflected by Wayne Simmonds. The GTA kids are really taking it to their hometown team.
Looking forward to buying NHL 12, although it bugs me that the commercial features Wayne Gretzky as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Oh, what could have been.
Watching a commercial for the third Transformers movie. They say it's the best action movie ever. Yeah, and Jeff Finger will win the Norris Trophy this year.
Assists go to Jakub Voracek and Matt Read. Apparently, I missed Voracek in the lineup.
Zac Rinaldo scores to make it 1-0 Philadelphia. Figures, post a video of Reimer making some good saves and then he lets one in.
For those who aren't watching the game, here are some of James Reimer's saves in the first period.
Paul Hendrick mentions Tim Connolly's time with the New York Islanders. Brings up that the Islanders had Roberto Luongo in goal, Zdeno Chara on defense, two players that led their teams to the Stanley Cup final last season. The Islanders should be kicking themselves.
Maple Leafs first round pick Tyler Biggs posts on Twitter: "Looking to see another win for the boys tonight #2-0 #optimusreim" Second period underway. Leafs have a good chance pretty early.
Jesse Blacker looked good in the first period. Leafs had a few chances on the power play but they failed to score. Can we get Tyler Bozak in the lineup?
The game is still scoreless as the first period comes to an end. I know games like this happen, but I can't stand a scoreless 20 minutes.
Reimer makes a great save against Flyers newcomer Wayne Simmonds on a short-handed breakaway.
Connolly playing the point on the Leafs power play. Lets see if it works.
Some good offense from the Flyers, not so much from the Leafs as the game is still scoreless after ten minutes.
Seeing all the empty seats in the ACC tonight makes me really wish I had a better job.
Hoping to see Adam Mair, a former Leaf and fellow Hamiltonian, make the Flyers as he is on a tryout contract. If he doesn't, maybe the Leafs can bring him back.
First time I notice Clarke MacArthur on the ice and he trips over the Flyers net. Not a good start.
Phil Kessel gets the first penalty of the game for roughing after saying he doesn't hit much in a media scrum.
