FIU Football Is on Right Track to Undefeated Season
Last year, head coach Mario Cristobal led his team to their first winning season, conference championship, bowl game and bowl victory in school history.
This year, he might lead Florida International to its first undefeated season in school history.
The Golden Panthers are 3-0 after dominating North Texas, going into a Big East domain and coming out with an upset victory, then shocking an Floridian rival at home.
Louisville and Central Florida were easily their toughest opponents, and with them properly dispatched, FIU can go through the rest of their easy schedule.
The Golden Panthers continue their homestand with games against Louisiana-Lafayette and Duke. FIU and easily beat anyone in their conference and Duke, despite being a BCS team, is a pushover.
They then go on the road to play Akron, another easy win. After that, its the rest of the Sun Belt for there on out.
The only game that would be worrisome for Florida International would be its rivals, Florida Atlantic.
Even though the Owls aren't a good team, they have always somehow defeated the Golden Panthers. Cristobal has to out coach Howard Schnellenberger this time.
FIU could easily reach Boise State status and maybe even better because their schedule has two BCS opponents compared to Boise State's lone big battle with Georgia.
Unfortunately, there will likely be more than two undefeated BCS teams, therefore leaving the Florida International Golden Panthers out of the debate.
