LSU, Alabama, Boise or FSU: Who's Really No. 1 If Oklahoma Loses?

0 of 4

The top ranked Oklahoma Sooners—who in their previous eight true road games have managed just a 3-5 record—face an extremely difficult test tonight in Tallahassee when they face the No. 5 Seminoles of Florida State.

So, what happens to the rankings if the Sooners lose?

There are at least four teams that can stake a claim to the number one spot if that happens in LSU, Alabama, Boise State and Florida State.

    Which one deserves it?

4. Boise State Broncos

1 of 4

Kellen Moore and the Broncos have been rolling along this season to a healthy 2-0 record. Both performances, against Georgia and Toledo, have been fairly solid, ending in big wins for the Broncos.

But, come on, let's be real.

Georgia is a middle of the road SEC team, while Toledo is, well Toledo. Moore is putting up big numbers, but he should be. Chris Petersen's squad has the easiest road to the BCS of any team in the country, but at this point, they are the least deserving of the number one ranking of these four teams.

3. Alabama Crimson Tide

2 of 4

The Tide are also currently 2-0 with wins over Kent State and Penn State. The Nittany Lions are currently struggling to beat Temple, so the value of that win might end up lower than expected.

While their level of competition is slightly higher than Boise State, it's till not that great, as neither team they have beaten is currently ranked.

The defense looks absolutely dominant, but it will be interesting to see what the Tide do against a well-balanced team.

For now, they should sit at number three if the 'Noles win tonight.

2. Florida State Seminoles

3 of 4

The Seminoles will have effectively given themselves the inside track for a run at the national title game if they can knock of Oklahoma.

Their schedule is manageable for the rest of the season, and they have the talent to win out for the rest of the year.

As for being at the top of the rankings, I feel second is about right.

One win over a ranked team at home is great, but cannot compare with what the number one team on this list has done.

Sure, the 'Noles will catapult themselves near the top with a win tonight, but they should not be number one.

1. LSU Tigers

4 of 4

The offense may not be much to write home about, but that Tiger defense is filthy.

There are few teams in the country that are going to have success moving the ball against these guys.

The Tigers' resume is the best right now of any team in the country, as they sit at 3-0, with wins over a top five team and a ranked SEC opponent, both away from home.

Right now, if Oklahoma were to lose tonight, LSU deserves the top spot...
