The New York Giants have caused a huge commotion tonight in defeating the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII by the score of 17-14.

The Patriots were looking to complete a perfect 19-0 season by wrapping up the honors of Super Bowl XLII. But a touchdown pass from Eli Manning to Plaxico Burress with under a minute to go in the fourth quarter clinched the upset for the Giants.

The Giants took the early first quarter lead with a 32-yard field goal from Lawrence Tynes. The lead held up until the second quarter when Laurence Maroney scored the first touchdown of the game for the Patriots with a 1-yard dash. The Pats led 7-3 at the half.

Both teams exchanged the lead three times during the fourth quarter, a new Super Bowl record. First, David Tyree caught a 11-yard touchdown pass from Eli Manning. The Giants were again on top by three points.

The Patriots answered with a great drive. Randy Moss catching a 6-yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady to give the Patriots their last lead of the game with just over two minutes to spare on the clock.

Eli Manning took the golden opportunity offered to him. He led his team all the way to the Patriots' end zone. A drive good for 12 plays and 83 yards.

The biggest play of the winning drive, sorry, the biggest play of Super Bowl XLII happened on a blown tackle from the Patriots defense on Eli Manning who scrambled out of the pocket and found David Tyree. Tyree made a spectacular catch to keep the drive alive. This play paved the way for Burress' winning touchdown catch.

Super Bowl XLII kept football fans on their toes all evening long. The Vince Lombardi Trophy remains inside the Manning family after the championship won by Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts last year.

Eli Manning was also named the game MVP. He completed 19 of 34 passes for 255 yards. Good for two touchdown passes and one interception.

Congratulations to the New York Giants, the Super Bowl XLII champions.

  1. What a great game. I have tons of respect for Brady and the Pats, but I was thrilled to see the Giants win. Eli Manning had a great game and has silenced his critics.
