The Ravens announced Thursday that they have hired former Rutgers University assistant coach Chris Hewitt to be their assistant special teams coach. The team has also promoted Matt Weiss to defensive assistant.

Hewitt, 37, spent the past eight years at Rutgers. He coached running backs in 2010 and 2011 and cornerbacks in 2008 and 2009 (so no, he wasn’t the position coach of Ravens running back Ray Rice when Rice was there). Hewitt was also the director of speed and skill development for the Scarlet Knights for three seasons.
