There's something on Notre Dame's Golden Dome, and it doesn't smell nice.  It's one thing for Notre Dame to have a less than stellar season, everyone should be used to that by now.

But when the fans start acting like soccer hooligans and attacking their own team, it's time to do something.

Charlie Weis may have stinking things up for a while now, but the fans have done Weis one better in dragging down Notre Dame.  In yesterday's game against Syracuse, the fans not only threw but continued to throw snowballs at their own team and it was not done in fun.

Three different times the P.A. announcer asked them to stop.  The fans not only pelted an injured Irish player, but a policeman trying to guard the sideline and the network cameraman.  Only one arrest was seen being made and the fans finally stopped after some fans were led away.

"Yeah, I was pretty mad about that, but, you know, whatever the fans want to do. You know they start throwing snowballs at their own team, I don't think that's a smart thing to do," says Irish defensive lineman, Pat Kuntz.

The snowballs were coming from the student section and there is some film of the throwers that hopefully will result in further action being taken against several others.  In this writer's opinion, anyone throwing snowballs should lose all game privileges for at least one season and offer a public apology.

It's one thing to have the team sink to low standards, but an entirely different one for fans to lower the bar to unforeseen lows.

If Notre Dame doesn't do something or Weis make a statement on it, then they have lost more than their fans' respect, but the entire sports world's respect.
