Manchester City: 5 Reasons Why the Blues Can Win the EPL

1 of 6

The new season is barely a month old and already crosstown rivals Manchester United and the rest of the EPL's elite know one thing—Manchester City mean business.

After a staggering start that has seen the Blues' new attacking machine draw comparisons to Barcelona, some are predicting that come May, Roberto Mancini's men will end 44 years of hurt and lift the title.

It's a bold prediction — but here are five reasons why it could happen.

Goals, Goals, Goals

Last season City came under fire for their often negative tactics.

But this year the Blues have stunned onlookers with an attacking approach that has overwhelmed opponents.

Their 5-1 rout of Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane made the rest of the league take notice.

And with the sublime David Silva flying, Sergio Aguero banging them in from every angle, Carlos Tevez itching for action and Edin Dzeko looking like a new man, the firepower at Mancini's disposal must be the envy of every other EPL contender.

That's not forgetting madcap Italian starlet Mario Balotelli, who could yet add another weapon to Mancini's already formidable arsenal.

Safety in Numbers

Last season injuries at crucial times rocked City's campaign and left them at risk of losing out on qualification for the Champions League.

Rumour had it that Roberto Mancini would have lost his job if that was to be the case but a strong finish saw the Blues defy expectations and finish third.

This time round, although the decks have been cleared the Italian has strengthened key areas. He knows that to be successful in a grueling English season you need quality backup.

Recruits such as Stefan Savic, Samir Nasri, Sergio Aguero and Owen Hargreaves provide the depth that could propel them to glory.

It's All About the Money

Clearly it's not all about the money. But it helps—and City have plenty of it.

Nobody can question Sheikh Mansour's willingness to open his hefty wallet. And come January, should the unthinkable happen and the Blues bandwagon stutters to a halt, expect to see reinforcements aplenty in the next transfer window.

Mancini's Masterplan

Roberto Mancini has proved to be no mug. Last season, with the stakes high, he took the Blues into Europe.

This year, although pressure remains, he has his charges playing with a freedom rarely seen outside Old Trafford.

The lessons he learned will serve both him and the Blues well as they chase the Holy Grail.

Dream Run-in

City start April with a trip to Arsenal—and who knows what kind of shape the beleaguered Gunners will be in by then?

After that they travel to Norwich, Wolves and Newcastle with home clashes to look forward to against West Brom and QPR.

Three points will be expected from all of the above.

However, the big one comes on April 28 when United make the short hop to the Etihad stadium—and if destiny remains in their hands at that point, home advantage could see the Blues over the line.
