The LSU Tigers are once again back in the national championship race thanks to a win over Oregon to open the season at Cowboys Stadium.

Quarterback Jordan Jefferson is suspended and has in all likelihood played his last game in purple and gold, but senior Jarrett Lee has been efficient enough to balance out the running attack of Michael Ford and Spencer Ware.

Lee will also have Russell Shepard available starting at a tough road game against West Virginia to play alongside Reuben Randle.

The defense is not as packed with stars like it was last season with Patrick Peterson, but the unit as a whole could be even better. The Tigers only gave up 335 to the normally lethal attack of Oregon and only gave up 99 yards and three points to Northwestern State.

LSU faces a rough schedule, particularly on the road, where they face Mississippi State in a Thursday night game, West Virginia and Alabama.

If they get through that unscathed, the Tigers will be more than deserving of a national title berth.
