Mike Shanahan Trying to Pick Al Davis' Pocket for Nnamdi Asomugha?

A little news article surfaced today, thanks to Yahoo again.

It seems Mike Shanahan holds Nmandi Asomugha in pretty high standards. That can't be too comforting for Champ Bailey.

According to the article, he was quoted as saying "I can't believe this guy hasn't been to the Pro Bowl or people don't talk about him all the time. He is off the charts and as good as it gets. He doesn't get the attention for the way he plays consistently. He is the most underrated football player that I have ever seen in my coaching career."

Interesting praise, well-deserved, of course for the Raiders' Corner.

But, there is one thing that does look odd. This was the same way Mike tried to pick off another Raider great in Tim Brown.

Back a number of years, Tim Brown was close to becoming a free agent. Since Denver was looking for a good quality receiver, Shanahan went looking for someone. He didn't have to go far.

By trying to sign him, it forced Oakland to match out the deal, and kept Tim Brown with us for all but the last season of his career.

Would Shanahan be looking to put together Nmandi and Champ?

Now that would be a frightening thought. My only hope is that if Al has no other choice and offers his franchise CB a key to the city, or whatever it takes to keep him here.

If not, .our defense goes back to square one...or lower, if possible.
