Daily Haze: Week 1 Waiver Wire Adds

Daily Haze, fantasy football, NFL, sports news

And so it begins.

The madness that is the fantasy football waiver wire will churn again in earnest this week as fantasy owners scramble to replace injured players or fill holes in rosters left by week one goose eggs. Consider some of these players for your roster needs this week:

Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bills [208-4-1]
Saw a lot of this last year from Fitzpatrick, who was popular off the waiver wire then too.

Joe Flacco, Ravens [224-3]
Three touchdowns against the Steelers’ defense.

Jay Cutler, Bears [312-2-1]
Gets the Saints next week, who got shredded by Aaron Rodgers in week one.

Cam Newton, Panthers [422-2-1; 8-18-1]
I hate suggesting a rookie quarterback, but Newton filled up the stat sheet in week one. Someone to watch.

Cadillac Williams, Rams [19-91; 6-49]
Must-add for Steven Jackson owners this year, but he will be hard to get.

Darren Sproles, Saints [2-7; 7-75]
Mostly a result of the Saints’ throwing the ball a lot. But then again, they tend to do that.

Ben Tate, Texans [24-116-1]
He did fumble, though. If that keeps up, he could find himself in the dog house.

Jordy Nelson, Packers [6-77-1]
Looks legit as the Packers No. 2/3 receiver.

Robert Meachem, Saints [5-70-1]
Marques Colston out at least four weeks. Devery Henderson [6-100-1] also had a good game, but I think Meachem moves up to No. 1.

Ed Dickson, Ravens [5-59-1]
Todd Heap’s replacement.

Ben Watson, Browns [3-45-1]
Colt McCoy throws to tight ends a lot. Teammate Evan Moore also caught three for 35 yards and a score.

Jermaine Gresham, Bengals [6-58-1]
I think fantasy owners were afraid of the QB situation. Andy Daulton threw the TD, for what it’s worth.

Here are today’s great reads:

  • For fans of Twitter who like to use it while watching a game, this is a must-have app for this football season. It even has a neat fantasy option, so you can keep up with all the latest fantasy football tweets. [The Fifth Down]
  • If you have DirecTV but do not have Sunday Ticket, hopefully you took advantage of yesterday’s free preview. I did and spent it watching the RedZone channel all day. Got to see a lot of Cam Newton, who had a HUGE debut as a rookie quarterback. Breaking Peyton Manning’s record, that is something. [Shutdown Corner]
  • Interesting story out of Thursday night’s Saints-Packers game: Randall Cobb became the first NFL player born in the 1990s to take the field in a regular season game. He also had two touchdowns. [ProFootballTalk]
