It is officially a new game at Estadio Morelos, as the Los Angeles Galaxy and Monarcas Morelia are even at one goal apiece.
In the 78th minute, a chance for Morelia missed wide right. In the 81st minute, Los Angeles nearly gave up an equalizer to Joao Rojas but it went wide right. Another chance off a corner was called back due to a handball.
In the 83rd minute, Josh Saunders gave up a howler by Adrian Aldrete. Saunders failed to get a good hand on it, and ball crossed the end line.
The goal now gives Morelia some much-needed momentum heading into these closing minutes. They have been rewarded for applying pressure to the Galaxy, and Los Angeles have not been able to build on the lead they had.

In the 54th minute, Morelia's Aldo Ramirez was caught offsides. A chance for Monarcas's Miguel Sabah in the 58th minute was saved point-blank by Josh Saunders. Adrian Aldrete's chance at the hour mark missed high and wide.
A corner in the 62nd minute for Landon Donovan was cleared after Donovan tried to find Omar Gonzalez, who tried his luck but was saved by Monarcas goalkeeper Federico Vilar. In the 67th minute, Morelia ace striker Rafael Marquez Lugo saw his shot saved by Galaxy netminder Josh Saunders.
In the 72nd minute, a free kick by Morelia's Jorge Gastelum missed the mark. Los Angeles nearly scored a howler in the 73rd minute which was saved by Vilar. Saunders then saved a chance from Joao Rojas in the 75th minute.
It is clear that Los Angeles are not satisfied with a one-goal advantage heading into crunch time here at Estadio Morelos. Consolidation, combined with sound, textbook defending, is on the minds of the road side. It will be interesting to see if they can continue to apply the pressure.
As for Monarcas, they need to work quickly and solve the back line of the Galaxy because they are getting worked. Not even the substitutions of Marquez Lugo and Miguel Sabah have done much to change the outcome so far.

The crowd at Estadio Morelos is silent, as the Los Angeles Galaxy take 1-0 lead over Monarcas Morelia thanks to Robbie Keane in the 52nd minute of play.
Morelia stormed the gates very quickly. In the 46th minute, a chance for Morelia's Jorge Gastelum from long range on the left side misses to the right.
In the 52nd minute a corner for Morelia was collected by Josh Saunders. Soon afterwards, Robbie Keane proved why he was what the Galaxy ordered: faking one defender and slotting it home cool as you liked.
Monarcas are now on the ropes and will need to find some to find way to equalize. Otherwise, this could be a banner night for the Irishman.

A half-hour has passed here at the Estadio Morelos in Morelia, Mexico, and we are still scoreless between Monarcas Morelia and the Los Angeles Galaxy in the 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League.
A chance from Robbie Keane via Mike Magee to give the Galaxy the lead missed wide right in the 17th minute of play. Morelia’s Joao Rojas tried his luck in the 18th minute, but his shot was parried by Galaxy goalkeeper Josh Saunders. In the 22nd minute, a Monarcas corner was cleared.
Morelia have been doing a great job containing the Galaxy’s possession game, earning the lion’s share of touches. They have executed a key component of the plan: to take players like Landon Donovan out of their game. As for the Galaxy, it will be important to get more looks aside from the chance Keane had to record his first-ever CONCACAF Champions League goal.
If Los Angeles are unable to break down the possession game Monarcas Morelia are establishing this half, it will be hard for the home side to drop this one.

We have played fifteen minutes here at Estadio Morelos, and it’s scoreless between the Los Angeles Galaxy and Monarcas Morelia.
Morelia came out of the gates firing early with a fifth-minute corner, but it didn’t amount to much. In the eighth minute, a corner from the Galaxy’s Landon Donovan was cleared. A chance from Joao Rojas of Morelia went wide left in the ninth minute of play. A free kick in the 13th minute was collected by Josh Saunders.
Los Angeles were forced to play without David Beckham, who was suffering from back issues, as well as Juninho, who was suspended due to a red card against Alajuelense.
For the Galaxy, they are faring very well, given the altitude and the energy of the home fans. However, they need to do a better a better job with their possession because this is a Morelia side that loves to counter.
Monarcas are doing a solid job getting their touches and will need to continue to apply pressure to the Galaxy back line. They look like they are due to deliver the first score of the night.

In the streets of Morelia, Michoacan, the fans are friendly and sociable. On match days at the Estadio Morelos, they are partisan and passionate. Bruce Arena’s Los Angeles Galaxy will notice how intense the atmosphere is on Tuesday night as they take on Monarcas Morelia in the 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League (5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET).
“What I realize is that, when you’re on the field, they all yell at you and support their team, but when you see them on the street, everyone is respectful and nice,” Donovan told MLSSoccer.com’s Luis Bueno. “That’s how it should be.”
Simply put, the Galaxy midfielder/team captain doesn’t care if he is labeled as a villain by the Morelia supporters. So what?
“There’s nothing I can do about that, it’s beyond my control,” Donovan added. “I got friends that are from all parts of Central America and Mexico. It is ignorant because there is no knowledge beyond it, but it is what it is.”

Bruce Arena’s Los Angeles Galaxy were all business as they prepare for tonight’s CONCACAF Champions League match with Monarcas Morelia at the Estadio Morelos in Morelia, Mexico (kickoff: 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET, Fox Soccer Channel.)
When asked about the prospects of following the trend set by Seattle and FC Dallas, the Galaxy manager was quick to note something important for the home side.
“The results Seattle and Dallas got don’t help us because I think Morelia will come close to playing their full team,” Arena told MLSSoccer.com’s Luis Bueno. “Dallas played against reserves and youth players and Seattle didn’t play against the full first team either. We’re going to play against the full team … we’re going to play against their best group.
“They can say now that this week, this game is more important than the game we have on the weekend.”
Los Angeles currently sit first on the Group A table with a 2-0-0 record (six points), while Morelia are 1-1-0 (three points) and are second.

Bruce Arena’s Los Angeles Galaxy will need to look to their veteran leadership to provide the ammunition on Tuesday night’s CONCACAF Champions League encounter with Monarcas Morelia at the Estadio Morelos in Morelia, Mexico ( kickoff: 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET, Fox Soccer Channel).
“Some of the younger guys, the guys who haven’t been there, we’ll drive it home over the next few days, mainly to expect the unexpected in these situations,” team captain Landon Donovan said ahead of the Galaxy’s match to MLSSoccer.com’s Luis Bueno. “There are a lot of different things that can happen, a lot of things go against you, but you’ve got to continue to stay positive and keep going. Teams who do that get results in difficult places.”
The Galaxy currently lead Group A of the 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League with a 2-0-0 record (six points) and are coming off victories over Motagua and Alajuelense.
