Cowboys vs. Jets Sunday Night Football: How Similar Is Burress to Michael Vick
Michael Vick had yet another solid performance Sunday, throwing for two touchdowns and running for 98 yards. Many have considered Vick a feel good story in the NFL, as he served his time and came back not only a better player, but also a better person.
For New York Jets fans, they can only hope Plaxico Burress is the same way. It is never easy to leave a professional sports league for even a single season, and Burress missed two full seasons.
Plaxico has shown signs of brilliance in preseason, including a great over the shoulder catch in the corner of the end-zone.
Burress seemed to be sincerely upset about what he did, and like Vick he served his time and paid the price for his actions.
Now Burress is going to want to show the entire country on national television that he still has it, even at age 34.
The similarities between Vick and Burress are hard to ignore, as both had off-the-field issues that cost them parts of their NFL careers. Vick came back and is now a top player in the league, and starting Sunday night we will be able to see if Burress can do the same.
Burress will get plenty of chances to make plays tonight as the Jets will look at him plenty of times when they march into the red zone, where they were one of the worst teams in the league last season.
The question will be, can he take advantage of this opportunity to assert himself as one of the best receivers again.
