Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick was last year's redemption story in the NFL. After serving nearly two years in a federal prison, Vick returned to the NFL, where he dazzled opponents and fans and was named 2010 Comeback Player of the Year.
Sure, it was a feel-good story, but there will always be a segment of NFL fans who simply won't take kindly to Michael Vick ever again. For them and for St. Louis football fans, this video of Vick being sacked and coughing up the ball to the Rams defense has to be sweet.
In this play, the Rams defense comes in with an aggressive two-back blitz while the Eagles only had running back LeSean McCoy behind the offensive line to guard Vick. With defensive back Quintin Mikell blazing in on the blind side, Vick literally did not see the hit coming. Before he knew it, he was on the ground and Rams linebacker James Laurinaitis was lying on the ball with possession.
Quintin Mikell is in his first season with the Rams; he played his first eight seasons with the Eagles. Mikell had a solid 2010 season with 88 tackles, but matched his sack total of one from last year on this play. Mikell is a good player, who is better known for his ability to clog up the secondary. But perhaps Rams defensive coordinator Ken Flajole has other plans for the speedy DB.
Like Mikell kept Michael Vick on the field last year, the Rams are hoping that he can get budding star Sam Bradford as much time of possession as possible.
