Erik Bedard an Ace? I Do Think So

Many people have given up the idea of Erik Bedard becoming an ace in Seattle. I have yet to give up hope because of two words: Andy Pettite. Pettite, a fellow lefty, and Bedard had very similar 2004 and 2008 seasons, respectively.

In 2004, Pettite was signed by the Houston Astros, a new town, just like Bedard. He went 6-4 with a 3.90 ERA with the Astros. Bedard went 6-4 with a 3.67 ERA in 2008. They were both signed for the same reason

In 2005, Pettite went 17-9 with a 2.16 ERA. The Astros made it to the playoffs and even played the Chicago White Sox in the World Series. In 2009, Bedard can very easily do those same things.

I am encouraging all of you not to give up hope; I'm sure that he will be putting in some extra training this offseason and maybe, just maybe, the Seattle Mariners can play in the World Series in 2009.
