The words "McCoy to Shipley" ring familiar to many Longhorn fans. No, the clip above is not a replay of a Colt McCoy to Jordan Shipley pass; instead it is a preview of a new duo that could be producing for the Longhorns for years to come.
The video above shows a pass from sophomore QB Case McCoy to freshman WR Jaxon Shipley. Shipley makes a tough catch, bracing himself for a hit by the BYU safety. The McCoy to Shipley connection served as the driving force in this Texas eight-play, 52-yard drive, ending with a four-yard TD by RB Cody Johnson.
This game against BYU was truly a tale of two halves. BYU's defense started the game strong, forcing starting QB Garrett Gilbert into two interceptions. The turning point for Texas came as head coach Mack Brown benched Gilbert and inserted a rotation of McCoy and Ash at QB.
Is the Garrett Gilbert experiment over? It certainly seems likely as the McCoy to Shipley combo injected a dragging Texas offense with new life.
Although both Case and Jaxon have big shoes to fill, this clip shows a lot of promise for the Longhorns' future.
