Bayern vs Freiburg

Bayern Munich have made quite a brilliant start to the new season, which will certainly allow them to shift their focus towards the midweek Champions League match.

Even though the match against Freiburg is as important as the midweek match against Villarreal, Bayern Munich are certainly in a position to have priorities even at this early stage of the season. After the loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach on the opening day of the season, Bayern Munich have certainly turned the corner by winning five consecutive matches on the bounce.

Even more impressive is the five consecutive clean sheets that they have achieved along the way. This puts them as one of the firm favourites to win this weekend, especially given that Freiburg have been on a poor run of form since the start of the season.

However, they have just managed to arrest this form following the 3-0 win over Wolfsburg prior to the international break. It will be interesting to see if they can continue the same against Bayern Munich, who are more likely to rest Arjen Robben. It is highly unlikely that it will affect the outcome of the match given the superior squad that Jupp Heynckes has at his disposal.

Werder Bremen vs Hamburg

Werder Bremen will have a great opportunity to pile more pressure on Hamburg, who have made a disastrous start to the campaign.

After failing to win any of their four opening matches, Hamburg find themselves at the foot of the Bundesliga table. This is unlikely to improve if they do not manage to get a victory from somewhere, which is something that is proving to be elusive for the team at the moment.

Even though Werder Bremen have not been as spectacular as Bayern Munich, they have been able to keep pace with the German giants.

Just one defeat in their opening four matches certainly speaks about the confidence that they are experiencing at the moment.

However, Thomas Schaaf will certainly recognise that his team is not perfect at the moment, and there are many areas of the pitch where they can improve.

Defending certainly seems to be at the forefront, as Werder Bremen have been unable to keep a clean sheet in their last three matches. Hamburg do need to sort out their form as quickly as possible because they do have a difficult run in coming.

Mainz vs Hoffenheim

Mainz 05 will be taking on Hoffenheim, who are just two places behind them. It provides a perfect opportunity to leap ahead of their rivals for the Europa League spot.

However, Hoffenheim can certainly claim to be the form team going into the encounter, as they have won two matches out of their last three.

Mainz 05, on the other hand, are without a victory in their last three matches, which certainly has taken the shine off their brilliant start to the season.

It is something that Hoffenheim will be looking to take advantage of, given that they will be facing a difficult run of fixtures in the forthcoming weeks. Any points gathered against teams like Bayern Munich will be a bonus, which certainly puts the three points on offer this weekend a top priority.

The two teams do not have a large injury list, which certainly helps Hoffenheim more than Mainz 05, given their recent form.

However, the home advantage should provide Mainz 05 with some opportunity to get three points against Hoffenheim, which will bring an end to their slump. Recent results also point towards a Mainz 05 win, as they have done so on the last three occasions these two sides have met.
