November 21: Today Is Not Just Any Other Day in the NBA

ShoreBall EnterprisesContributor INovember 21, 2008

Not only is today November 21, but it is also my birthday.
With that being said, I did some research into this day in the world of basketball. Here’s what I found:

1927 – The original Celtics play their first game of the new season at Madison Square Garden.

1965 – Basketball Hall of Fame announcer Chick Hearn begins his streak of broadcasting 3,338 consecutive Los Angeles Lakers games.

1996 -  With a 105-94 loss at Dallas, Los Angeles Clippers coach Bill Fitch becomes the first NBA coach to record 1,000 career losses.

2001 – The Denver Nuggets call up Chris Andersen from the Fayetteville Patriots, making Andersen the first D-League player to be called up to the NBA.

Also some current and former NBA players that share this same birthdate:

Josh Boone, 1984 – currently plays for the New Jersey Nets

Stromile Swift, 1979 – currently plays for the New Jersey Nets

Reggie Lewis, 1965 – played for the Boston Celtics; died suddenly during a Celtics practice in 1993

Cedric Maxwell, 1955 – won two championships with the Boston Celtics; current Boston Celtics radio broadcaster

Earl Monroe, 1944 – won a championship with the New York Knicks; also known as “Earl the Pearl”, “Black Magic” and “Black Jesus”.
