Auburn vs Mississippi State: Auburn's Defense vs Mississippi State Run Game
Was last week’s game for Auburn a preview of what’s to come for the Tigers? More importantly, did they really deserve to lose their Top-25 ranking because of a close victory against a non-BCS school?
Last week, yes, was a victory that should have never been as close as the final score showed. The Tigers offense and defense lost their captains from the 2010 National Championship team. But, it was no excuse for the way that team opened their 2011 season against Utah State.
The game was supposed to be a celebration of Auburn’s first National Championship. Instead it was a nightmare performance from a Tigers defense that was shredded by a freshman quarterback playing in his first college football game.
Apparently the defense decided to take the Utah State game as an extended bye week. For the Auburn faithful, let’s hope that they were just looking forward to this week’s game against SEC opponent the 16th ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs.
The Auburn defense last week couldn’t stop the rush. This maybe a problem against a Mississippi State team that rushed 309 yards against Memphis.
Okay so this isn’t on the level of maybe a problem. It looks as if this week, the Auburn defense has a big problem on their hands.
Mississippi State brings to Auburn running back Vick Ballard. Ballard averaged 16.6 yards on only 10 carriers. That’s a total of 166 yards and reaching the end zone three times as well.
Auburn has a big problem on their hands this week.
