Today marks a momentous day in Italian football. It is historic in every sense and may just prove to be a step in the long journey for Italian football to once again reign supreme in Europe. Today marks the opening of Juventus' new stadium, and although we do not know its official name, "Juventus Arena" is the most technically advanced stadium Europe will have ever seen.
Five years ago Juventus were given clearance to move out of the Stadio Delle Alpi, and to begin construction on a new masterpiece. Since then, construction has ensured that Juventus would have a new stadium to play in by the commencement of the 2011/2012 season. They certainly achieved that, and although it won't be seen in a league fixture until this weekend, the Bianconeri will officially christen the stadium with a historic tie against Notts County, which will be seen live on Youtube (above when the telecast starts).
Juventus and Notts share a rich history, with the Bianconeri getting their "Black and White Stripes" from the kit of County. Since then a friendship between the two clubs has developed, and will be rekindled in the friendly to mark the opening.
At €100 million the stadium will seat 41000 (with room for extension) and comprise of the following:
- 7.5 metres between the first row from the field of play
- 49 metres between the last row of the stands and the field
- 3,600 Premium Seats, including 4 suites and 62 Sky Boxes
- 86 metres height in the two tri-colored steel masts
- 275 seats in the press room
- 3 dressing rooms
- 21 bars
- 8 dining areas
- 4,000 cars spaces
- 30,000 square metres of green areas around the implant
Juventus will also pay a special tribute to the players who took the club to the heights of her success throughout its history. Players who will feature on stars similar to those in Hollywood placed around the stadium are:
Pietro Anastasi, Roberto Baggio, Romeo Benetti, Roberto Bettega, Carlo Bigatto, Giampiero Boniperti, Felice Borel, Sergio Brio, Gianluigi Buffon, Antonio Cabrini, Umberto Caligaris, Mauro Camoranesi, Fabio Capello, Franco Causio, John Charles, Gianpiero Combi, Antonio Conte, Antonello Cuccureddu, Edgar Davids, Alessandro Del Piero, Luis del Sol, Didier Deschamps, Angelo Di Livio, Ciro Ferrara, Giuseppe Furino, Claudio Gentile, John Hansen, Paolo Montero, Pavel Nedved, Raimundo Orsi, Carlo Parola, Angelo Peruzzi, Gianluca Pessotto, Michel Platini, Pietro Rava, Fabrizio Ravanelli, Virginio Rosetta, Paolo Rossi, Sandro Salvadore, Gaetano Scirea, Lucidio Sentimenti, Omar Sivori, Alessio Tacchinardi, Stefano Tacconi, Marco Tardelli, Moreno Torricelli, David Trezeguet, Gianluca Vialli, Zinedine Zidane, Dino Zoff.
