MLB, Seattle Mariners, Felix Hernandez, Cy Young Award, Preview/Prediction

Tim Lincecum won the 2008 Cy Young award. My bet says he will win for many years to come. But the American League is tricky. Cliff Lee is getting old and no way can he win over 20 games in a season again.

Felix Hernandez  has 593 career strikeouts, funny thing is he's 22. In two years he can very well reach 1,000. In 20 years, he can beat Nolan Ryan.

This year he had 175 strikeouts, a 3.45 ERA. He had Cy Young numbers except for wins. He was 9-11, yes very scary numbers in that order but with the offense he had to back him up it is no surprise he only got nine wins. He had 14 wins in 2007 but with a higher ERA.

Next year, he could very easily get a 3.00 ERA, 18 wins, and 200+ strike outs. With Brandon Morrow in the rotation, the Mariners could have one of the best pitching staffs ever.

Ryan Rowland-Smith can put up very nice numbers across the board, and R.A. Dickey can keep the rotation going. Eric Bedard owes it to Seattle to win 20 games and if he gets used to the town the Mariners could be on top of the AL West.

Felix Hernandez is already the Seattle Mariners ace. He has been since Jamie Moyers departure. The Main reasons he came to Seattle was Freddy Garcia (Felix currently wears his no. 34 proudly), and the Mariners earned his family's trust. The Mariners found him at age 14 and signed him at 16.

Expect Felix Hernandez to be at the helm of the Seattle Mariners as they fight for the playoffs.

  1. That's if King Felix can survive the season.

Here's a true strikeout pitcher that thrives of bringin' it. What concerns me about that, is that Hernandez throws too much with his arm. You can tell when he starts pressing and needs his pitch he puts too much arm into it and he's going to blow him self up.

If this year's Cy Young award winners taught us anything, it's that you doing have to throw gas to be effective.

2009 winners: AL: Chien Ming Wang, Yankees; NL: Cole Hamels, Phillies

  2. I dont see how Hernandez is suddenly going to get 18 wins next year with the M's current offense. It may even be worse than last years with the loss of Ibanez. Bedard is still injured, and he'll start the season on the disabled list. Rowland-Smith looks solid but I want to see a full season of him. It looks like Dickey is headed back to the bullpen, and Morrow has incredible stuff and potential but lets not put our hopes on the kid yet.

  3. How in the world does it look like dickey is going back to the bullpen? He is training with hall of famer Phil Niekro on the knucle ball. Bedard injured at the begining of the season, where the heck did you get that? Morrow is the western david price. Yuniesky Betancourt is training with Raul Ibanez. Mike Morse, Mike Wilson, and Greg Halman will be great upgrades.
