Youk As Catcher

steve skaling by Contributor Written on November 20, 2008

If I'm wrong, I'll hear about it, I'm sure. But if I remember correctly,I saw Youk catch a game in Portland (AA) 3 or 4 years ago. With the possibility of a Tek-less team and no farmer catcher ready to step up. Is it possible that Youk could be the gap-filler and "coach" witheither a homegrown catcher or a young catcher thru trade for a year? The obvious negative is at his stature as a great corner infielder and his age, why would he even consider it. But the positives are he has seen AL batters from both positions for years and know defensively how to play them, he's familar with the Sox pitchers and how they and Tek plan the game, and he's got the arm. I wouldn't be surprised if this conversation has already taken place with Youk and the Brass. Comments?
