Tennis, Men's Tennis, Roger Federer, Preview/Prediction

No one knows what will happen next year for the rest of the ATP tour, but one thing is for sure, four big-names will be contesting the four big tournaments. Followers of this year's tour need no explanation: Nadal, Federer, Murray and Tsonga...okay, okay...it's Djokovic.

The four finalists of this year's slams will battle it out again next year. No one knows what the results will be, except the French. Nothing is guaranteed in life except a tombstone and taxes...and Nadal winning the French Open.

Federer fans will be disappointed once again that the great one didn't win the French Open in 2009. Nadal fans will almost be bored at him lifting another trophy.

Hey Federer fans, if you watched the 2008 finals, you can't really fancy Federer's chances of beating the Clay Hammer.

When it comes to the hard courts, the field has been blown wide open: four players open. Murray, Djokovic, Federer and Nadal are all racket to racket when it comes to the hard surfaces.

Federer is still ahead of the field in terms of skill and experience on hard court, but his health and fitness is now a major concern. A few years can make a lot of difference. What once healed over night now sets you back five days!

All four are capable of taking home the hard court tournaments but I can't really see anyone other than Tsonga with the firepower and streaky-ness to maybe upset one of them. (Possibly Djokovic.)

At Wimbledon, I really can't see anyone other than Federer and Nadal, once again, in the finals. My guess is that Federer will get sweet revenge. He will know better than to let Nadal get a lead of two sets to love.

  1. I dunno, don't forget the Borg Jinx.

How else could Federer have lost Wimbledon? IT WAS BORG jinxing him!

So don't be surprised to see Nadal lose the French to Federer, in the ultimate irony as he wins his 15th Grand Slam.

    Federer= Greatest of all Time

  2. Joker - Federer - Rafa - Murray

  3. I'm gonna say Murray in Australia, Nadal in France, Federer at Wimbledon and US Open -- Sampras will attend the US Open to see Fed break the record.

  4. why only nadal in france?? why can't nole or murray do that??? and why only murray in OZ?? when nole is the defending champion?? and why not federer in all the four??? please explain rob???

    1. federer in ALL four has got as much as a change of ME breaking Michael Phelps' record !

    2. I think the purpose of this is to pick the ONE player you think has the best shot of winning. Most of these are just gut feelings, except in Paris. Betting against Nadal there is like betting against a sunset.

    3. this one's for long:

oh yeah the guy who nearly won all four for three years has as much chance of winning the grand slam as you winning 9 gold medals...

I admit the chances are slim...and I don't know how good of a swimmer you are but
please...a little respect for the Roger

you're diplomatic to a fault...I understand you trying to always keep the view that everyone is great but don't let that blind you to true greatness either

federer has as much chance winning all four as you breaking the local swimming record after 12 months of training

  5. agreed that federer's health is an issue...was a shame though to find out he was battling mono throughout most of the year...would have made a much better french final if he was healthy. I'd bet on Federer winning 2 of 4 in 2009 and maybe make a surprise run at the french...when he's playing terrible he still wins games but when this guy is on he can even make nadal look foolish. Health and age is a big concern though.

  6. Australia - I think this will be the most OPEN Grand Slam next year and I seriously wouldnt bet On OR Against any of the Big Guns. They all would want to start the year well, so if all the Big 4 come into the tournament in formidable form, I think this one will be hard to predict...

    Roland Garros-My guess..Federer completes Career Grand Slam...:D
Yeah just a hearty wish, But who knows, Next yr, the balls may land unreturned at the other side of the court...!
on a serious note, Nadal has 99.999999% chance of winning at Paris again (heck it is boring watching him win all the time at Paris) But Federer will share the 0.0000001% with the other field and oh, he can live with it...:d -- and One Hopes the 'Bjorn Borg' curse works ('equal my records, But u cant break 'em!')

For me, Wimbledon still matters the most and Yeah my guess is on Federer to take it next year, he says nothing matters more to him..The man's ego has been hurt very much when he was wrestled off the throne of the King of Wimbledon. I should think Federer's Class on Grass will be back at Wimby next yr. And Thats what the Fed-fan in me wants he most too...to see him winning Wimbledon again. I would love it if Federer Breaks Sampras' record at Wimbledon, there is no place more fitting..and if Sampras can come to SW19..I will cry like a Kid!

as for The Flushing meadows, yet again quite an Open Major, though it is an important point that many players dont have much gas left in them when hey come into US Open, Federer seems the only one whose style of play suits him to play and win some seven Best of 5 sets matches after a long year, after playing some serious tennis all yr...and being a 5 time Champ, he wud know better than anyone on how to win on this unforgiving surface..that said, I think Murray, Djokovic and Nadal will want to sink their teeth on the Trophy, and of course some Youngsters like Tsonga, DlPotro n the likes...

all in all, a good yr to look forward to.

  7. If Nadal is healthy, he has Roland Garros. I like Fed in the other 3 slams. Only way Rafa doesn't get the French is if an inspired Murray,Simon or Del-Potro can soften him up or pull the upset. I don't expect Murray or Djoker to get a slam in 2009.
