FIRST GAME ROUND-UP: Auburn survives, Bama, Ohio State, Penn State roll
The first games are finished.

A few quick points:

1) Auburn were awful against Utah State, but managed to survive to pull out a 42-38 victory.

And while there will be mad celebration amongst the Auburn fans that their winning streak continues, let's get one thing straight: The Tigers looked like a side missing so much 'Grade A' talent (Cam Newton, Nick Fairley et al). And the rest of the SEC will be licking its lips about as much about playing the Tigers' defense as they will about playing Kentucky's offense....

2) Penn State rolled against Indiana State, convincingly thumping them 41-7 in a trouncing. The lovefest for Silas Redd got a lot more loving as the running back put up yet another 100-yard rushing game, putting up 104 yards on only 12 carries. He also helped himself to two touchdowns. And Matt McGloin and Rob Bolden will both play against Alabama next week, despite the fact that McGloin earned more of the praise out there. The big worry for the Nittany Lions will be their kicking team, which was absolutely awful all day long (that and playing Alabama's defense).

3) Alabama crushed Kent State 48-7, in spite of their new quarterbacks Philip Sims and AJ McCarron throwing two picks each. 'Best running back in the SEC' Trent Richardson wasn't particularly called upon, putting up 37 yards and 13 carries. He was lethal from short yardage, though, taking home three touchdowns. The Nittany Lions had better be stacking the box when this kid comes to town...

4) Ohio State dominated Akron 42-0 in a rather dull game at The Horseshoe. Braxton Miller looks a very good prospect at quarterback, although Joe Bauserman will probably continue to get the starts this year.
