Are you feeling the Luck of the Irish, or rather bullish?
Notre Dame, ranked No. 16 in the preseason AP poll, is set to host the unranked South Florida Bulls to kick off week one of the 2011 College Football Season. It will be season two of the Brian Kelly era at Notre Dame; it will also be the second season for USF's Skip Holtz, who proved to be a worthy successor to Jim Leavitt.
This is the highest Notre Dame has been ranked to start a season since 2006. The Irish are coming off an 8-5 record last year and expectations are high in South Bend. Getting into a Bowl Championship Series game is not an unrealistic expectation; in fact it should be expected.
For South Florida, they too will be looking to take things to the next level. Like Notre Dame, they finished 8-5 last season, and took care of Clemson in the Meineke Car Care Bowl. South Florida fans should expect their team to at least maintain that level of success, but certainly have reason to hope for more.
While Notre Dame is the clear favorite, and loaded with talent, USF is not a team to be overlooked and the Fighting Irish will certainly have their hands full as they look to start the season 1-0 on their home turf. If they are looking past the Bulls, they could get bludgeoned
With kick off in an hour, it is time to start getting pumped up for Notre Dame vs. South Florida.
