Up-and-Coming New Jersey Nets Will Be Landing Spot for LeBron James

If only the Nets showed up for the third quarter on Tuesday night against the Cavs. They did, however, showcase their young talent for LeBron James. The Nets' supporting cast will be younger and better when James becomes a free agent in 2010.

Unless the Cavs make that big move to get LeBron a sidekick or two, James will have no choice but to bolt Cleveland, even if he wins a championship with the team this year. Just how much longer is his current staff going to be productive after this year?

Ben Wallace is running on fumes, Zydrunas Ilgauskas cannot have that much more in him after being in the league and playing professionally as long as he has. Wally Szczerbiak will probably not be re-signed, Anderson Varejao is a straight energy player off the bench and not much more. That would leave the King with Delonte West, Mo Williams, Daniel Gibson, and Sasha Pavlovic.

The roster that LeBron will be looking at come decision time on the Nets side would be speedy guard Devin Harris, up-and-coming center Brook Lopez, who looks better with every start, sharp-shooter Ryan Anderson, and the steal of the draft, Chris Douglas-Roberts. He will also have energy off the bench provided by Sean Williams and Yi Jianlian, who has all the potential in the world, along with the marketing value of China.

The New Jersey Nets are only going to get better with experience. Lopez, Anderson, and Douglas-Roberts are all rookies, and Harris is coming into his own, as shown by his three straight 30-point games after getting the freedom to play his style, which was not given to him in Dallas.

As for tonight, Vince Carter had an off-night, only scoring 12, Harris was a little off his game, scoring 23, compared to what he did in the two previous games against Atlanta. Lopez finished with a strong game in only his third start with 15 points and 13 rebounds before fouling out. Anderson never really seemed to be in the game and Yi took another night off as he continues his string of on nights, off nights.

Like all young players coming into the league the young Nets are going through consistency problems. All this being said, the young, inexperienced Nets showed LeBron what they are capable of when they went into halftime with a three point lead.

While New Jersey may not be a playoff team this year they will be close and definitely will be one next season barring major injuries. The Cavs are built for right now, the Nets are a team built for the very near future right about when LeBron becomes a free agent to be the missing piece to a dynasty.
