Buffalo Bills

Same Old Buffalo Bills..."Wide Right"....

Dave GainerCorrespondent INovember 18, 2008

The 2008 Buffalo Bills started their season with 5 straight wins, and with that the hopes of a championship season. But oh how things have changed. After four straight losses, three of those division losses. The old choke feelings were resurrected. In my town,  which is close to the Philadelphia area, Almost everyone is a Eagles fan. But there are a group of about fifty people who call themselves... Buffalo Backers.., they are Bills fans from this area. Every Sunday they rent the party room in the back section of my local sports bar to watch their Bills.  During those 5 straight wins they were boisterous, loud and obnoxious, often coming out of their room and singing victory fight songs etc.. Needless to say they have been quiet the past four weeks. The pain of the nineties suddenly became etched on their faces as they watched The same old Bills come back to town.  Monday Night's game was a telling story of how far the Buffalo Bills have fallen... Trent Edwards opened up their 1st drive with an int, then quickly followed with two more ints. Then the running game gave up a fumble. And at the end of the game a missed field goal ...Wide Right... This game was a pivotal game for the hapless Bills. It looked like they didn't get message.  Trent Edwards, (Ivy League),  may be one of those guys who knows there are no double ot's in the nfl , but lately he hasn't been able to read defenses. Now that The Philadelphia Phillies have won a recent title, The city of Buffalo can officially carry the banner of  Choke town USA.  When was the last time the Buffalo Bandits won a La Cross title, Or the Buffalo Blizzard in Soccer? The Bills will now miss the playoffs  again this season having plenty of time to think about what could have been. And now Buffalo Fans will have to switch over to The Sabres who have a good thing going despite having recently lost two straight. Who knows maybe the Sabres will keep up appearances and Choke late in the Season!
