No, Charleston Southern is not good but UCF was flat out impressive in their 62-0 romp over the Buccaneers.

Quarterback Jeff Godfrey had a quiet game in the air but he didn’t need to do much since the Knights ran for an incredible 316 yards and eight touchdowns, three of them from Godfrey.

But even more impressive than their offense was their defense. The Knights only allowed 119 total yards and only returned four starters from last year’s stalwart defense that ranked eighth in the country in points allowed.

Boston College comes to town next week and they will provide a much more comprehensive test for the Knights. The Eagles’ Chase Rettig threw for a whopping 357 yards and running back Montel Harris could make his return next week; however, they did allow 227 rushing yards to a Northwestern team that did not play Dan Persa. It should have been assumed the Wildcats would run the football a lot.

And after last week, UCF should be keeping the ball on the ground a lot. The Knights don’t have nearly the same experience of Northwestern’s offensive line but 316 yards on the ground, regardless of the opponent, is quite impressive.

The Knights beat Georgia to conclude an 11-3 season and finished ranked 21st in the country. They may not get ranked this week but if UCF can beat Boston College, they could be the first C-USA team to make their way into the coaches’ poll.
