Great news for the University of Memphis basketball program: Coach Calipari has recruited the No. 1 player for the 2009 season, Xavier Henry. This will make the third consecutive year the University of Memphis will have a top five player coming out of High School.
Last year it was Derrick Rose, and this season Tyreke Evans is a top five player.
Give the coach some credit for how he recruited Xavier Henry. Calipari recruited his brother for this season, C.J. Henry, and Xavier Henry wants to play with his older brother next year.
Now if Calipari can somehow stop the "One and Done" seasons of top recruits, sell them on the benefits of playing more than one year in college and maybe to actually graduate, Memphis could be a force for many seasons to come. This is probably wishful thinking on my part.
After Rose was drafted number one in the NBA draft, I'm sure these top players are wanting to do well with Memphis for one season and go pro. The money would be hard to pass up for another year in college.
Congratulations to the University of Memphis and Coach Calipari for their efforts in putting together a good basketball program.
