Vince Young: Needs to Mature or the Titans Will Need to Draft a QB

The Tennessee Titans are 10-0.  They are nothing but impressive.  Offense, defense, and special teams are fantastic.  When the Titans first moved to Tennessee, they built their franchise around character people.  When the Titans got away from that, they got a bad eye in the media.  It ought be easy for the Titans to stay out of the media in such a medium friendly market like Nashville.

Do we need to bring up the Pacman saga again?

That's when building your football team, you build it around good character people.

The Titans had the chance to take the kid right down the street on West End Ave at Vanderbilt University in Jay Cutler. The Titans, or should I say the owner of the Titans, Bud Adams thought he had a gem in Vince Young and took the Texas QB, who grew up in Houston.

Mike Shanahan called Fisher to get advice about Cutler because Jeff knew Bud was going to take Vince.  Fisher wanted Cutler.  Norm Chow and Floyd Reese wanted Matt Leinart.  Maybe if Bud would have listened to Jeff, we wouldn't be talking about this.

Its all under the bridge now.  Or is it?  I always look for long term potential when I watch sports athletes.

Kerry Collins is the starting QB for the Titans right now.  He has still got it, but for how long we just don't know.  He is in the last year of his contract.  Titans better sign him to a short-term contract quick once the season is over.

When you play the QB, you better have leadership qualities.  Realistically, they only have one QB on their roster and its Collins.  Young is second string. Ask yourself, is he a leader?  When you stop cuddling the guy, he will mature, but until then, he won't be a leader.  Chris Simms is the third string QB and he is a moot point.

Going into next April's draft, the two positions that are weak are QB and WR.  The reason the QB position is weak is because their is no talent or depth...no competition.

Vince is in the third year of a five year deal with a sixth year option.  The Titans invested a lot of money in him. Do you think they got their money's worth so far?  Early returns on Vincesanity might be a little insanity throwing all that money at him.

So, it's not to early to look at the potential QBs for the draft:

Matthew Stafford at Georgia

Colt McCoy at Texas

Sam Bradford at Oklahoma

Graham Harrell at Texas Tech

Don't forget about Mark Sanchez of Southern California, the alum Jeff Fisher you know will be interested.

Vince Young will start playing again for Titans, but the question is will he be a changed man or do the Titans seriously need to take a QB in the draft.

I think it's actually "moot point," unless you're attempting some clever play on words that I'm just misunderstanding.

Also, I think Fisher has been clear that Vince Young will be the starting quarterback of the Titans in the near future. I realize that coaches and players spout a lot of fluff, but I don't think Fisher has any reason to do so in this case. I think Vince Young showed what type of leader he was in college and during his rookie season. When he gets his head straight, he will be the great quarterback that we all know he can be.

Additionally, I did not follow the draft as closely as I would have liked when Vince Young went third. Could you supply some sources that support your contention that Fisher wanted Cutler and Chow/Reese wanted Leinart? I'm just curious, because if that's true, we might have another Jerry Jones on our hands... I have a hard time believe a coach like Fisher would operate under a guy like that, but then again, it's not like I know him personally.

    Ryan,

i believe that you remarks on right on target. How soon must we all forget that kerry collins was being benched because of his ridiculous play. Can somebody tell these so called football pundits to pillar their language before they bury vince under the bus. i am truly amazed at how we relish the opportunity to "hosanna" an individual one day and "crucify" him the next. Look at the facts vince has never had the type of playmakers around him with the titans to make his transition to an nfl quarterback an easy one. Yet he has still found a way to win. I believe that it would be a drastic mistake for the titans to allow this incident to severe a potential great marriage. Besides, Look at what happened in the ncaa championship game when everyone underestimated his "fieldsmanship" those results were louder than ever and will truly be go down in history as one of the greatest performance by one single individual ever.
