Should Jim Hendry Be More Like Kenny Williams?
To this point in time Jim Hendry has been one of, if not the most, successful general managers in Cubs history.
In my opinion, he's not that creative. You mainly see him going after players that the media circle around for months.
Who is creative? Kenny Williams. Wow, I know a Cubs fan talking good about someone in the White Sox organization. The thing is, he deserves it.
You don't see him going for overrated, overhyped players that are oggled by the media. Now, odds are that Williams has made offers to some of these players. Most GMs have.
The difference is, he looks to alternative routes for putting his team together. He doesn't mind trying a younger player from a trade i.e. Carlos Quentin. When's the last time the Cubs have done that with a successful player? Sammy Sosa. Odds are that's probably true.
Imagine Kenny Williams having the financial resources that the Cubs have. Do you think Alfonso Soriano would be here? Probably not. How about Kosuke Fukudome? That's a possibility, considering Williams did make an offer to him.
Thing is, Williams seems to make plenty more fiscally responsible moves than Hendry does. Where would this team be if Hendry wasn't the GM? I'll let you decide.
